As one of my favorite designers, Thom Browne delivers a very stylish and interesting collection for the S/S 2012. Taking inspirations from the flapper era is genius. Eventhough the show is fun and playful the workmanship on the pieces is extraordinary, nobody can't deny that. It is peculiar, I think, to read some of the comments on the video for the show. Someone commented that whole collection is not wearable at all. I think as a stylist or looking with a "fashion eye" at least, There are a lot of wearable pieces from this collection. The baseball jacket that I love, the suits and outerwear? They are totally wearable. Sure if you walk around town with a look from the show, you might look ridiculous but the goal is to apply what you see from the runway to your daily wardrobe in a cohesive fashion. For example, when you are attending a fashion event, wearing those long pearl necklaces is not quite weird would it.
I hope everybody had a fun weekend. I did. My only regret was due to Saturday's weather in the city, my idea of a dead Tom Cruise from Risky Business was dashed and transformed to a dead mob from one of my favorite shows, Boardwalk Empire. Oh well, there's always next year.
Happy Halloween Everybody! That is a little weird saying that since I already celebrated the Adult Halloween that began Friday night.
If you would like to see the full collection, you can watch it at Thom Browne's official site *here*.
It's funny to think that when most of us were kids and Halloween comes around, we have one night to dress up and eat candies and be, well . . . kids. Now that we are adults, usually we have the whole weekend and multiple costumes for the yearly event. Tonight if my schedule permits it, will be the "ex-boyfriend" complete with a gun shot wound on my forehead. I'm not entirely sure what I'm gonna be wearing but I'm sure I'll come up of something.
The Korean brand, Kelburn taps top model Tobias Sorensen as the face of their Fall/Winter campaign. I love the pieces for their latest collection. I just wish that they are available here in the states without ordering them from overseas. Not pictured on the campaign was this interesting part hood that goes over a suit jacket. I would definitely buy a few of the pieces from the collection. Aside from the Japanese designers, their Korean counterparts are pretty much neck to neck as the next fashion destination in Asia.
For my fashionistos and fashionistas going out this weekend, be safe and I will see you on Monday!
At the height of the "Occupy" movement, it seems like when I post on Facebook about anything remotely what seems like a frivolous lifestyle is countered by a reprimand on the current and recent-past woes of the life of a working-class citizen (regardless it is or not). Well I AM a working American. I'm not burning away on my trust fund, am I? Eventhough I grew up in a well-to-do household, I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I'm aware that the money that my siblings and I got from my parents did not grow on the trees in our backyard but due to hard work. I may be a smart @ss at times but I'm not stupid. I had an education with a humble upbringing, to which I wield to speak my mind.
Are people just being too sensitive nowadays? Perhaps.
On the other hand, knowing that Fashion is certainly not synonymous to "working Americans" and it is certainly a very "elitist" career. But in my case, I chose this path not because of the grandiose life it can give me but a matter of being part of something that I'm passionate about.
If it makes you happy, it couldn't be that bad, couldn't it?
Marlon Teixeira appears on the latest issue of Elle Man Mexico. The editorial that is called It Takes Time To Be A Man is lensed by Santiago RuiSenor and styled by Pamela Ocampo and Itzhiar Hurtado. Teixeira is outfitted with pieces from the collections of Louis Vuitton, United Colors of Benetton and Gucci to name a few.
Thursday is here and the Halloween parties begin this Saturday and the countdown start right now to what I'll be for those parties. I'm thinking of just getting horns and a mask or actually be The Green Hornet as suggested by a friend yesterday, due to my love of everything dapper. It just makes sense. We shall see, we shall see.
In a couple of weeks, Versace by H&M will be available and I already made up my mind which ones I would get. I just need to prepare to grab and get the ones on my list. Since, it will be a mad house. Pretty much like Lanvin hearts H&M event last year. I would like the leather jacket, of course, with the matching cotton shorts with the classic Greek Versace pattern. The palm print baseball jacket and the print shirt with the gold collar tips. I wouldn't mind getting either tailored jackets. I already know I wouldn't get my sweaty hands on all these pieces so I have to prioritize and attack . . . once I get in the store.
I know people think it's crazy to be camping the night before but hey people camp out for concert tickets, this just happens to be for clothes.
I don't know wether because I live in San Francisco that I get excited about Halloween and what to go as or because it has been one of those yearly events that I look forward to. But something is different this year. I mean some of my friends are going all out with their costume ideas and honestly I don't have any inspiration for a costume this year. I went as a Robin last year and my friend went as Batman. But this year, I might as well be some form of undead? But as of now, for Saturday I'll be in a mask, horns and wear a black shirt, red tie and my Prada Brogues, you guessed it, the Devil does wear Prada. I know revolutionary, right? Well I still have a few days to figure it out. What are you going as for Halloween this year?
The editorial appears on the latest issue of the I.T. Post. The always amazing Kwannam Chu shoots strong-jawed Harry Goodwins, the face of Zara's lookbook for September. Lotta Aspenberg styled Goodwins with pieces from Alexander McQueen, N.Hollywood, and YSL.
Tenebrous appears on the Fashionisto Magazine with Hungarian model Misa Patinszki. Adam Robertson captures Misa in a very tenebrous, and brooding shoot. Misa is styled with pieces from Burberry Prorsum, Rick Owens and Balenciaga by Ashley Cover. I love that one shot where he pulls the coat close to him! Such a great shot!
It is no secret that owning a car is a luxury. Wether you have the newest model or a jalopy from yesteryears. It costs money. I own a car that was bought to me by my parents a few years ago, an Acura Integra. Nothing fancy, meaning it is not a Beamer, but it serves its purpose and then some, like my beloved sunroof/moonroof. Within the last couple months I already spent money on it that would probably be worth my other beloved at-the-moment, the Burberry Prorsum Burnt Orange coat. I have thought of public transportation since I live in SF anyway and letting it go. But I love the freedom that my car gives me, so I kept it. So moral of the story? Prioritization. What is more important to me, right now, spend money on my car or a coat. Practicality wins.
I know with this decision, no regrets . . . I'm sure of it.
Eventhough, I don't quite have the super tres-tres-extraordinaire kind of life, I still give thought on my professional and social life. In short, both keeps me busy. So if I get a break from both I do cherish my far from and in between ME time. It helps me center myself and sort of rebooting myself. It is a good thing.
Hope everybody had a great weekend. Mine was simple and amazing. Now, another Monday is upon us.
COS, Collection of Style, is an out spurt of its mother company H&M. I own a few of their pieces and just wish that they would open a separate store in the US. I love the lookbook for their Fall/Winter collection. I just hope that the pieces that I want would be available at the H&M's flagship store in downtown. Simple and stylish just the way I like them.
