Picnic Time in Italia - D&G and Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2011

I decided to marry the two levels of Dolce & Gabbana to one post since, honestly the D&G collection was quite a snooze alone . . . not as disappointing as the Calvin Klein trainwreck but still. D&G usually puts on a show and I am still a fan but the uber picnic theme was a little distressing. I like a checkered shirt sometimes but not so much matchy-matchy that most of these boys looked like they WERE the picnic blanket and don't get me started with the hawaiian/floral shirts and pants, yikes! The rest of the collection had a very east coast mid century the vanderbilt's are having a backyard party feel to it. I like the framed print shirt with the painting of Manet. The Knit shirts and the shoes are pretty sleek and cool. I love the leather jackets and light colored tuxedo are mixed with the shorts. Overall, Domenico and Stefano made Preppy look chic.

Now for the main event, this was one amazing show and it didn't hurt that Annie Lennox was singing live. For this collection, the boys went back to their roots gathering inspiration from the men and boys of south Italy. Since this was such a huge collection, it has everything from lounge wear to formal wear, there were repetitions. the collection had a very light and airy feel to it.  I  really did not care much for the super distressed/ripped jeans (that Dolce and Gabbana is known for) and the loosely woven sweaters. But the linen suits were great, very relaxed but elegant at the same time. The basket-weave leather jackets were nice as well. The show ended with a suited parade of the Dolce and Gabbana boys down the runway. Bellissimo!
