Yes, folks the Spring/Summer 2011 shows wrapped up on the 16th at its new home at the Lincoln center's Damrosch park and I have been compiling and editing the shows and soon be posting them here. I've said it once and I'll say it again I still feel like that the Men's shows are still ten times overshadowed by the Women's shows. Is it the market here in the US? Perhaps. I read an article published on WWD addressing this subject in the beginning of the year. Even though in the past five years that the Men's wear fashion market in the US has increased, it is still a big question wether NYC should have a separate Men's week. There's also a big argument wether (if it ever happens) the New York show would be able to hold a candle to the big hitters of the Paris/Milano shows. Besides the regular participants like Philip Lim, Tommy Hilfiger and other American designers that still show in New York would there be enough designers to fill in a week that would actually generate a buzz? Another point that the article pointed out was there might also be a problem on production and timing in terms of the Spring/Summer European shows. To my opinion, it can happen the talents' there , its just a matter of time that the US market will change. What do you think?
Nevertheless, this year's collection was pretty amazing. Although I feel like that the Japanese designers truly shined last week, there are a few surprises. So stay tuned.
