Bad Day But I Love You, Nonetheless - Simon Nessman by David Armstrong

Yesterday, I woke up stretching and thought to myself, "what a great night's sleep." Suddenly it hit me. It was weekday and my alarm didn't go off. Sure I had 45 minutes to get ready and drive to work which was enough time to bypass most of my morning rituals and just do the essentials i.e. brush my teeth, shower, shave, moisturize, get dressed and drive to work.

At work, it was interestingly hectic at both locations. The bag that I wanted from the CFDA You Can't Fake Fashion Robert Geller bag sold out in minutes and the possibility that my yearly vacation in two months might just get cancelled because of a business trip. It was safe to say that  yesterday was not my day. But hey I might have lost a bet (as well) with New York but I just had to roll with the punches. Deep breaths and self-chanting how I love shopping and ergo my job and all.

Today's a new day, and hey, Happy Hump Day!

In juxtaposition to my day yesterday, Simon Nessman appeared on the latest issue of Vogue Hommes International. Nessman channeled a Narcissistic character for this editorial that was shot by David Armstrong. Azza Yousif styled the self-loving model with pieces from Y-3, Yves Saint Laurent, Moncler Gamme Blue and Lanvin.

A little self love never hurts anybody. Oh, hey I can see David Armstrong in one of the pictures!

Just Get On - Mathias Bergh by Giampaolo Sgura

I'm not one to sit around and watch TV all day but I do have a few shows that I record in a regular basis. One of them is the Zombie Apocalypse Spectacular-Spectacular: The Walking Dead. Sure, sometimes I forget that it's about individuals trying to survive a zombie apocalypse and not like one of my Mom's Lifetime movie drama-rama that she watches every time I visit my parents. But it seems like the story pace is picking up for the third season, thank God. I can't wait for the third season to begin. Have you got The Walking Dead fever . . . umm that doesn't sound too healthy.

In today's post, Mathias Bergh appears on a fashion editorial for the latest issue of Out magazine. The amazing Giampaolo Sgura photographs and Grant Woolhead styles Bergh in luxurious pieces from Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

I really like the safari touch and the slight re-invention of the high fashion brand's Menswear line by Kim Jones. 

Runway Monday: About Face - Tommy Hilfiger Fall/Winter 2012-13 Review

Another favorite of mine from the last Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, Tommy Hilfiger almost did a complete re-imagination of the brand. What a surprise! Being so used to Tommy Hilfiger's all-American aesthetic, that when the show started I had to make sure I was seeing the right show. The theme for this season was cadet prep which played with military looks and uniform. The outerwear were just amazing with the leather and high neck details. Some of the coats were adorned with fur, leather straps and mix and match of epaulettes and braided metallic details. I also liked how some of the coats were equipped to be zippered out for a more shorter version, very smart. The precision of the leather pieces were just absolutely gorg! Eventhough I would never wear leather pants, one because I don't ride motorcycles nor am I rockstar . . . okay wait let's just go for reason one there were a few that really looked great in this collection. The color story for the collection was uber masculine with neutrals, navy and maroon predominantly touches almost every piece. One of my favorite look was the one with textured leather motorcycle jacket with the shearling trim with leather pants and riding boots. There is just something about riding boots that I love but feel like Californians do not generally get. Eventhough the knits generally got out shined by the great outerwear pieces, I love the turtleneck with the across the body stripe ala sash, very regal.

Overall, going for a different feel for the brand this coming Fall/Winter season was such a good idea it felt like a breath of fresh air during a crisp winter day.

Another great weekend, with St. Patrick's day and all. I attended a few social events and a friend's birthday rounded up my weekend. Did you wear green? I did. But gone were the days of wearing green shirts with a clover leaf and some cooky hat, going to a St. Patrick's day to an early dinner with drinks at the Waterbar with some friends from my fashion circle required more than that. I wore my greenish Versace leopard print shirt, my blue Drykorn blazer and my skinny black pants paired with my Romain Kremer shoes. Rounding the look with my Vivienne Westwood necklace. But the juxtaposition of my outfit or myself when thrown amidst the general public was amusing . . . to me.  After hanging out with my fashion people I went to my friend's birthday event that was held at a Karaoke bar on Market street called The Mint. Where, inside I was surrounded by beads, cooky hats and green shirts with clover leaf. The irony of it all, really. Nevertheless I had fun because I was with great company.

Weekend it has been real fun, but Monday's here and time to saddle up and work it.

You Make My Heart Beat Faster - Hadleigh Oliver, Matt Rodwell & Arthur Olecki by Steeve Beckouet

I received some good news yesterday afternoon, Someone from New York is coming next month to visit me. Yep, E.S. aka New York is coming to see me. I'm excited, eventhough we talk on the phone and video chat whenever we can there's nothing like being able to touch and see the person in front of you. There are days when I envy couples who can see each other whenever they feel like it but alas it is what it is. Besides distance or not, I know I'm not settling just because it's convenient. Anyone could ask either New York or I nothing in our relationship is really convenient or practical. I'm in it because New York makes my heart beat faster.

On another note, I've resurrected my twitter account from the dead. All my followers are now gone, sad face. So if you would like to follow me on my shenanigans @guyinthemission on twitter feel free.

Sleek When Wet - Tyson Ballou by Doug Inglish

Last night, I finally got around watching the new show Fashion Star on NBC. The premise of the show was the designers hope to stay in the competition by showing their designs to a panel of mentors and buyers from H&M, Macy's and Saks Fifth Ave and get a bid for the pieces to be sold at the store and online the next day. I didn't really thought I would watch it because before last night, I didn't know anything about the show besides it has Elle Macpherson as the show's host and ugh-ness extraordinaire Jessica Simpson as one of the mentors (John Varvatos and Nicole Richie were the other two). Overall I liked the show so far. Not to mention it finally showcases to most network watching general public what a buyer does then maybe I don't have to explain to people what I do.

BUT I did not agree with the decision of sending home somebody that showed complete looks versus somebody who showed an accessory with somebody else's clothes. Eventhough the one that got sent home got called out as having a "chauvinistic Australian attitude" by Macpherson. I liked his designs, albeit his attitude or not.

It's finally Friday! The weekend is almost here.

The stunning editorial was photographed by Doug Inglish and styled by the always amazing Katerina Melnikova with pieces by Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry Prorsum, Giorgio Armani and Yves Saint Laurent to name a few.

WARNING: There might be body parts showing. but other than than what a great editorial! Leave it to the editors of European men's fashion magazines.

Things That I Want: Short Stories - Gant by Michael Bastian

It is a little hard to think about the promise of warmer weather when it's been raining the whole day and forecasts, you've guessed it! More Rain till the end of the week. I'm used to the cold and I own a car so I'm not really complaining. The bad thing about the weather, I tend to get lethargic. I almost didn't go to the gym after work and cancelled on the GQ/Bloomingdales fashion event, all because of the rain.

I know I'm not made of sugar that I'll melt in the rain but unless I'm kissing my New York out in the middle of time square with a full orchestra playing Tchaikovsky's "Romeo And Juliet Overture"(you know the part I'm talking about, 9 minutes into the piece), I'll pass frolicking in the rain for another day.

In today's Things That I Want post, I bring you not one but two pieces that I wanted from my last year's trip to Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. They are both from the Gant by Michael Bastian Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Both have that quirk without being too graphic. I absolutely love the printed turtle shorts! From afar you wont even know they're turtles till you get close when you realize what are printed on the shorts. The other piece is the camo swim shorts. Now that I'm older (and wiser), gone are the days of baggy board shorts that I wore back in college but I don't think I'm at that point to wear banana hammocks besides I'm not Brazilian, European, or a 50 year old man. The turtle shorts retail for $245 and the camo swim trunks for $135.

If you're familiar with the collection, there's a pair of swim shorts with the hippo prints on them, really cute, but I felt like I can't quite pull a pink swim shorts. I know, I'm pushing dandy to my limits.

Oh, how I can't wait for Spring to roll around.
