Silent Movies with The Volume UP - John Galliano Spring/Summer 2011

Who knew that silent movies can be so loud. True to himself, John Galliano put out a great show that was inspired by the silent movies era of Charlie Chaplin. I always felt like the Galliano line was way too avant garde but at the same time there were always pieces that were nice and very wearable. This collection was not that different. It has pieces that echoes the trend for the next spring/summer; Snug blazers, baggy drop crotch pants, and a very in the now take on lounge/swimwear. The line also featured a very dandy-ish ensembles in pale colors and was rounded up by a little bit of leather trimmed pieces, with a slight mix of lace that besides the pants did not really care for.

This appears on the Italian magazine >bmm. While going through the picture set and I can't help but think of Jesus in the now (I apologize to the religious fashionistas/fashionistos, in advance if this sounds blasphemous). Regardless, Will Lewis looks great in this series taken by Aline and Jaqueline Tappia.

Trend Thursdays: Sweating in Style

One trend that most fashion editors didn't see coming was this piece, designer sweatpants. Granted I'm one of those people who privately cringe when I see overly baggy sweatpants or those velour sweatpants on people walking around town and don't get me started when these people match them with Uggs on women and men!!! These type of sweatpants, on the other hand, should fit you like how regular pants should, meaning no overly bunching up on the ankle, trimmer and a little bit low rise. And a general rule of thumb, this is by no means a replacement to tuxedo pants nor should you wear them to work but rather wear them on weekends and the more obvious, the gym. Another suggestion is to keep them fresh and clean, meaning fold them don't just chuck them somewhere in the back of your closet. Wearing designer sweats is great way to be comfy and dressed down without looking like a slob or ghetto fabulous.

Local Designer Spotlight: Dcepcion

I read an article about the fashion scene in the bay area and it was quite disturbing actually. I mean do people still think that the bay area, specifically San Francisco is just a bunch of hippies? Sure maybe there is still that group, but I think that SF fashion has been growing steadily not quite as big as New York and I am really not sure if it will ever get to that level (who knows really) but its here and its pretty amazing.
For this week, I'm featuring our very own twin designers Daniel and David Concepcion for their brand Dcepcion. I really like their design aesthetic. Edgy but not unwearable. They usually make one of a kind pieces, a plus for fashionistos and fashionistas alike. The duo has been showing their collections at a number of fashion shows in the city for a number of years now. Below are some of their collections from their fashion show a few years back to the most recent Black V event. I like the charcoal bermuda shorts and the asymmetrical cut and pleating on the black exo vest and surely be investing on them soon. You can purchase these pieces at their official Dcepcion store. I personally can not wait to what this wonder duo might bring in the future.
